Parenting Is Harder Than We Expected...

Most of us begin parenting with love, good intentions, and a vision for the kind of family we want. Then real life happens. Stress, exhaustion, and strong emotions can pull us into reactions that don’t reflect the parent we hoped to be.

Love shapes our intentions. Stress often shapes our reactions.

This doesn’t mean you’re failing. It means you’re human. When stress is high, it becomes harder to stay patient, curious, and connected, and old patterns can take over before we even realize it.

There Is Space to Do This Differently.

Parenting doesn’t require perfection. It requires awareness, connection, and the willingness to repair when things go sideways. With understanding and support, parents can learn to pause, respond with more intention, and strengthen connection over time.

Change begins by supporting the parent—not fixing the child.

Why Braver Spaces Exists

I’m Tanya Taylor-Muller—welcome to Braver Spaces! I became a parent coach because I know firsthand how complex, painful, and deeply meaningful parenting can be. I’m a parent to five grown children, a stepparent to two more, and a mother-in-law to two (and counting!) Our family has experienced significant change over the years, including loss, growth, and rebuilding. Through every season—childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and blended family life—I’ve learned what it means to keep showing up with steadiness, flexibility, and resilience.

Alongside my lived experience as a parent, I’m also a Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC) working with teens in a residential treatment setting. With a bachelor’s degree in Marriage and Family Studies as my foundation, I’ve built my work around attachment, nervous system science, and evidence-based approaches such as ACT, CBT, and DBT — all through a trauma-informed lens. In both my clinical work and my own parenting, I’ve seen how deeply stress and past experiences shape family dynamics. This has reinforced what I’ve seen again and again: lasting change begins by supporting the parent, not fixing the child.

In this space, I’m not your therapist. I’m here as a guide, teacher, and steady cheerleader—offering clear psychoeducation, reflection, and encouragement to help you better understand yourself, your child, and what’s happening beneath the surface.

You don’t need to be perfect. You don’t need all the answers. You just need support—and space—to grow.

A Different Way to Parent

Many parents were taught to manage behavior through control, correction, or consequences — often before understanding what’s happening underneath the behavior, in themselves or their child. When stress is high and connection feels fragile, these approaches can lead to more conflict, distance, and self-doubt, even when parents are doing their best.

The issue isn’t a lack of effort or care. Most parents haven’t been taught how attachment, stress, and nervous system responses shape behavior — or how their own history shows up in everyday parenting moments. Without that understanding, it’s easy to default to patterns learned long ago, especially when things feel urgent or overwhelming.

I believe meaningful change starts by slowing down and supporting the parent first. When parents understand what’s happening beneath behavior — including their own stress responses and emotional patterns — they gain more choice. More capacity. More room to respond instead of react. From that place, connection becomes possible again, even after hard moments.

Braver Spaces offers parent coaching grounded in attachment, nervous system awareness, and repair. This work is educational and supportive, focused on helping parents make sense of real-life situations, build steadiness under stress, and strengthen connection over time. There’s no expectation of perfection — just a commitment to learning, reflecting, and staying engaged in the relationship.

You don’t need a new parenting script. You need understanding, support, and space to practice a different way — one rooted in connection, intention, and care.

What to Expect at Braver Spaces:

Start With a Supportive First Step: When you reach out, we’ll begin with a real, grounded conversation about what’s been challenging in your parenting and what you’re hoping for. This is a space to be reflective and curious, without pressure or judgment, so we can see whether this approach feels like a good fit.

Engage With a Structured Curriculum: This coaching follows a parent-focused, attachment- and nervous-system-informed curriculum. Much of the work happens between sessions through guided learning, reflection prompts, and practical exercises. This is where insight is built—through real-life practice, not just conversation.

Integrate, Apply, and Grow Over Time: Sessions are a space to slow down and make sense of the material together. We’ll explore what stood out, where you felt stuck, and how the concepts are showing up at home. The focus is on understanding, application, and connection—at a realistic pace that supports your day-to-day life.
